Sherman Park has long been a gathering place for Milwaukee families. With the grand opening of the new Sherman Park Splash Pad, the park now offers a refreshed, accessible amenity designed to bring more activity, connection, and summer fun to the neighborhood.

VJS Construction Services recently joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, Milwaukee County Parks, community members, and project partners to celebrate the ribbon-cutting. VJS served as the architect on the project, helping bring the community’s vision to life through thoughtful design and collaboration.

The splash pad is a key part of the broader Re-Imagining Sherman Park project, a collaborative effort focused on improving the park and creating more opportunities for recreation, family engagement, and community use.

Shaped by Community Input

Community engagement played an important role in the project. In February 2024, VJS joined Milwaukee County Parks and the Boys & Girls Club to host a Community Update & Community Input meeting.

Attendees walked through architectural renderings of the planned improvements, asked questions at project stations, and shared feedback using post-it notes. Community members also used “stars” to vote on their favorite potential features, helping the team better understand what mattered most to park users.

Designed with Purpose

As the project architect, VJS helped guide improvements that balanced recreation, safety, accessibility, and long-term park performance.

The new splash pad gives youth and families a fun, safe, and welcoming place to cool off during the summer months while encouraging more families to use the park and spend time together outdoors.

Beyond the splash pad, the project included meaningful upgrades throughout Sherman Park, including stormwater management improvements, sustainable landscaping, basketball court resurfacing, pathway repairs, lighting upgrades, parking improvements, new signage, and raised garden beds.

Building with Purpose in Milwaukee

At VJS, we are proud to help design and build spaces that bring people together. The Sherman Park Splash Pad is a strong example of Building with Purpose, showing how collaboration and community input can create lasting impact.
