New Spaces, New Opportunities at RUSD Case High School

Students, staff, and community members celebrated the completed improvements with a ribbon-cutting and a look inside the updated school.
The event marked the result of ongoing collaboration to keep learning moving while creating new opportunities for Case High School students.
Keeping School Moving
VJS completed 163,000 square feet of renovations to Racine Unified School District’s Case High School while the school remained fully occupied. With no off-site relocation options or spare classrooms, our team worked closely with the building principals to plan construction around students, staff, and daily school operations.
VJS converted available library space into six temporary classrooms, allowing us to renovate about five classrooms at a time. This phased approach kept work moving throughout the school year and reduced the construction needed during summer break. Weekly stakeholder meetings helped the team coordinate classroom moves, review upcoming activities, and adjust the sequence around the school’s needs.
The team coordinated work around the bell schedule, corridor security, and extracurricular activities. Designated construction access routes and fenced staging areas helped separate crews from occupied spaces, while summer flooring abatement reduced the work needed during classroom rotations.
Through close collaboration with school leadership, VJS kept renovations moving while supporting daily school operations. The ribbon-cutting celebrated that shared effort and the updated spaces that will serve Case High School students for years to come.
