The Ramirez Family Foundation undertook an effort to improve educational opportunities for underserved youth in the City of Milwaukee. Their objective was not only to improve the quality of education for our city’s children, but to make a lasting impact on the community and improve the city’s overall quality of life. The site selected was a distressed area at the corner of Sixth and Harrison Street on Milwaukee’s south side. VJS Development Group acquired 13 parcels, including industrial sites, surrounding homes, and public right of ways. An extremely aggressive schedule opened the building in 16 months. This work included phasing construction around an existing building that occupied a major area of the construction site for the first 10 months of the schedule.
