VJS engaged the team of architects, engineers, owners and brought in relative potential subcontractors to brainstorm different options on how to construct the auditorium and related music, practice and storage areas. The end result was a combination of precast concrete, masonry cavity wall construction, and structural steel. Also analyzed was options on constructing the curved glass curtain wall at the lobby. The hybrid structural system allowed for a full height fly, recessed orchestra pit with mobile cover, and a full maintenance platform in lieu of just catwalks. This was all accomplished while remaining within a tight budget. The full maintenance platform accommodates easy changing of stage rigging, curtains, and lighting.
