PROJECT DETAILS
  • Cost: $10,805,756
  • Seven new greenhouses and supportive buildings
  • 11,000 square foot “show” greenhouse
  • 42,000 square foot working greenhouse
  • 11,000 square feet of storage and preparation building
EXCEPTIONAL RESULTS

The building itself integrates a number of complex systems, many of which were coordinated by the greenhouse contractor, Nexus. Shading, temperature control, irrigation and bench warming systems in each of the seven greenhouses are monitored and coordinated by a central control system. All greenhouses have hydronic heating, cooling pads to regulate temperatures and a state-of-the-art watering and environmental control system. A curved shape was originally studied for the greenhouses to better fit with the Mitchell Park Domes; however, the state-of-the-art ventilation technology was only available in pitched roof forms. The finish materials of galvanized steel, anodized aluminum, glass, acrylic, concrete, and burnished block were chosen for their durability, suitability to greenhouse use, and their cohesiveness with the existing Mitchell Park Domes.
