Bishops Creek was the first apartment complex built in the Holy Redeemer Church community to lead the revitalization of the urban neighborhood. The 55 unit building has changed the dynamics of this neighborhood. There are now over 200 low-income individuals living in this complex.
Our approach to workforce development efforts include conducting job fairs. For the Bishop's Creek project, we engaged community groups that were near the project to advertise and promote the dates of the job fairs and help us connect with the residents in the neighborhood. Pre-job fair informational meetings allowed us the opportunity to communicate important project details and job opportunities prior to the job fair. We were able to receive applications in advance of the job fair and schedule interviews with the subcontractors. One hundred eighty seven individuals attended the pre-job fair and each individual interviewed with a subcontractor. A week later, we were able to align the skill sets of potential applicants with the needs of the subcontractors.
